Jane Pleasants is the President of SMI responsible for the overall operations of the organization, moderation of bi-annual Forums, and oversight of Thought Leadership Councils and industry initiatives.
Previously, Jane was the Vice President, Supply Chain for Duke University and Duke University Health System. She joined Duke to establish a procurement infrastructure for the newly formed Health System which included developing a robust portfolio of self-contracts for medical supplies, drugs, equipment and services, implementing an enterprise-wide materials management system, providing leadership in aggressive cost reduction, and integrating procurement activities. She had responsibilities for end to end supply chain management which includes all materials and logistic functions in the Health System. In addition to Health System supply chain responsibilities, Jane also provided procurement and sourcing leadership for the academic and medical center campuses at Duke University, one of the few shared service organizations supporting academic medical centers, universities, and health systems. Her global procurement and sourcing activities included the sourcing and procurement of the furniture and equipment for the Duke Kunshan University Campus located in China’s Yangtze River Delta Region, bordering Shanghai.
Her early supply chain career began in a small rural hospital in North Georgia. Since that early beginning, Jane has led supply chains at three academic medical centers, Vanderbilt University, University of Rochester, and Duke University, all shared services between the medical center and academic enterprises.

Christine Dean is SMI’s Vice President of Operations and Member Experience, responsible for membership, communications and technology as well as assisting the Associate Executive Director with the coordination of SMI member-led Councils and initiatives. Her role includes project planning, research, database management, reporting, and website projects. She brings over 25 years of marketing communications experience most notably in the technology and healthcare fields.
Prior to joining SMI, Christine was Direct Marketing Manager at Infinium where she coordinated a variety of direct marketing programs in the manufacturing / supply chain marketplace. As a marketing consultant, she worked with various technology companies providing project management for both virtual and on-site events including client conferences and sales meetings. Christine has created numerous websites for large, small, profit and non-profit organizations. She most recently served as an independent healthcare consultant, providing PR and marketing services to healthcare organizations, creating databases, conducting patient surveys, designing websites, executing community and educational events, and establishing clinical partnerships.
Christine volunteers her time with local organizations and is also a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and AHRMM.

Katherine Bailey is the Director of Project Management and Programs at SMI. Katherine’s role includes project management for SMI Councils, research for initiatives, Forum planning and support, and general administration.
Prior to joining SMI, Katherine worked as a Program Coordinator for William & Mary Law School and as a technical writer for Colonial Williamsburg. She then branched out into project management and supported educational programs around the country in a variety of capacities. Katherine lives in Williamsburg, Virginia and continues to be an ambassador for her town volunteering at Colonial Williamsburg, and serving as an executive board member for a downtown economic vitality initiative.
